death toll
The aftermath of the bombing of hiroshima
A delta is a really flat area. Now what happens when you combine Hiroshima, the city on the delta and an atomic bomb? The result is a large death toll and plenty of destroyed buildings. However with Nagasaki, the mortality was not as great because the city was located in a valley. About 80,000 died instantly when the bomb detonated and another 35,000 were injured. Later, at least 60,000 would die from radiation sickness. The buildings were a different story. Before the bombing of Hiroshima, there were 90,000 buildings. After the bombing there were only 20,000
As mentioned before this, Nagasaki is located within mountain ridges so damage was not as catastrophic as Hiroshima. 75,000 were killed and wounded in this city.
